‘LEED platinum status’: Sunnyvale cuts ribbon on sustainable city hall

LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a certification system created by the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council that recognizes sustainability achievement and leadership.The entire building has been designed around the sun to improve visual comfort and reducing energy use. OAKLAND — Fire crews worked early Friday to put out a fire at a homeless camp that authorities said forced them to close a freeway on-ramp.The fire was in the area of the 27th Street on-ramp to state Highway 24 and eastbound Interstate 80, according to the Oakland Fire Department and California Highway Patrol.Crews responded to it around 6:20 a.m., according to dispatchers.The smoke from the blaze could be seen from the two freeways.It was unclear how big the blaze was or how long it would take to put it out. (KRON) -- The California Highway Patrol reported a crash on westbound Highway 84 at Dumbarton Bridge around 6:13 a.m. in Fremont. The center and left lanes were blocked briefly, according to CHP.
