Stanford couldn’t afford to take it easy on its bye week. Not with the Cardinal riding a four-game losing streak and a nationally-televised primetime game coming up Friday against Colorado, which is coming off a 24-21 win over Arizona State on Saturday.“This was the opportunity to get better, not to just slack off or party,” sophomore defensive lineman Jaxson Moi said this week. “We have a big game coming up this weekend. I think we have an advantage with our rest, and them on the short week. So just really locking in and realizing that we have a great opportunity to win some football games.”Colorado (4-2, 1-2 Pac-12) has undergone a stunning turnaround under first-year coach Deion Sanders, who inherited a team that went 1-11 last season. Progress has been slower for Stanford (1-4, 0-3), which went 3-9 last season and saw most of its top players transfer out.Head Coach Deion Sanders talks with his son Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders (2) during the first half at Folsom...Richmond couple acquitted of murder but convicted of life-eligible assault charge in death of their 5-week-old son

Prosecutors on Tuesday urged the judge overseeing Donald Trump’s election interference case in Washington to take steps to protect the identity of prospective jurors, citing the former president’s “continued use of social media as a weapon of intimidation in court proceedings.” Special counsel Jack Smith’s team said in court papers they are concerned about what Trump “may do with social media research on potential jurors” in the case accusing the former Republican president of illegally plotting to overturn his election loss to Democrat Joe Biden. They pointed to Trump’s recent disparagement of the clerk of the New York judge overseeing a civil case against him that caused the judge to issue a limited gag order. Smith’s team wants the judge to issue a written questionnaire to weed out potential jurors before jury selection begins in the case scheduled for trial in March. They are asking the judge to prohibit both sides from using information gained thro...Bulgaria arrests 12 people for violating EU sanctions on exports to Russia

GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei has threatened to crack down on pro-democracy demonstrations in which activists have blocked roads since early last week in support of President-elect Bernardo Arévalo.Protesters are demanding an end to what they see as political persecution by prosecutors of Arévalo, who is due to take office in January but whose political party has been suspended on prosecutors’ allegations of voter registration fraud. Arévalo, who has vowed to root out corruption, has described that and other cases brought against him as an attempted coup. Giammattei said in a taped message late Monday that he would arrest the protest leaders, who he claimed were funded and advised by foreigners. Giammattei’s remarks were the strongest attack yet on the protests, which he accused of damaging the economy and causing “vandalism.” The comments suggested the president was firmly in support of his U.S.-sanctioned attorney general. “We are requesting...Latest news
