District updates: Tight race in one, tough spot in another

DENVER (KDVR) -- While one of Colorado’s new representatives from the 8th Congressional District may be on the hot seat, candidates vying for the 3rd Congressional District could be in for another tight, controversial race. The National Republican Congressional Committee listed Rep. Yadira Caraveo’s seat as one of 37 that are “vulnerable” in 2024. Meanwhile, the conservative “American Action Network” launched a campaign last month pushing the congresswoman to vote for the House GOP’s “Lower Energy Costs Act,” which would increase domestic oil production, a key industry in the 8th District. (CNN) — An evacuation order is in place for those within a half-mile radius of a plant fire that reignited Saturday afternoon in Brunswick, Georgia, according to the Glynn County Board of Commissioners and the city’s mayor.The fire at the Pinova plant, which delivers specialty rosin and polyterpene resins, initially broke out Saturday morning, with the board saying on Facebook nearly three hours later that it had been contained and there was no immediate concern for public safety.Later Saturday, the board said in another Facebook post that the fire had reignited and issued a shelter-in-place order for a one-mile radius around the plant.In a press conference Saturday night, Brunswick Mayor Cosby Johnson said the shelter-in-place order has been extended to the entire city limits because of changing winds. (AP) — Several cars on a freight train derailed and caught fire early Saturday in rural Maine, officials and the train operator said. Three workers were hurt, but their injuries were said not to be life-threatening.The Maine Forest Service said in a statement that three locomotive engines and six cars carrying lumber and electrical wiring went off the track at about 8:30 a.m. in Sandwich Academy Grant Township in Somerset County.They derailed into a wooded area and started a small forest fire, which emergency responders contained and were monitoring, the service said. GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) — The first-ever Two Step Inn music festival brought in a sold-out crowd of 30,000 on its inaugural day Saturday.
