Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 03:04:14 GMT

NEW YORK (AP) — Fired Fox news host Tucker Carlson said Tuesday that he will be putting out a “new version” of his program on Twitter.Carlson made his announcement in a three-minute video posted on the social media site, as part of a denunciation of media. He called Twitter that last big remaining platform that allows free speech.“We’ll be bringing a new version of the show we’ve been doing for the last six and a half years to Twitter,” he said. “We’ll bring some other things, too, which we’ll tell you about. But for now we’re just grateful to be here.”He offered no other details, and a message to his lawyer, Bryan Freedman, was not immediately returned. It’s unclear what these plans mean for his remaining contract with Fox; typically television companies include a no-compete clause when someone leaves the air. A Fox spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a call for comment.Axios reported on Tuesday that Carlson’s lawyers sent a letter t...

Tucker Carlson announces plans to relaunch his show on Twitter

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 03:04:14 GMT

(CNN) — Right-wing extremist Tucker Carlson announced Tuesday that he will relaunch his program on Twitter, a platform he praised as the only remaining large free-speech platform in the world after Fox News fired him late last month.Carlson made the announcement in a video posted to the social media website, which Elon Musk acquired last year. Twitter has devolved in recent months into a chaotic platform where the traditional press has come under assault from the billionaire.“Speech is the fundamental pre-requisite for democracy. That’s why it was enshrined in the first of our Constitutional amendments,” Carlson said. “Amazingly, as of tonight, there are not that many platforms left that allow free speech. The last big one remaining … is Twitter, where we are now.”Carlson demonized the news media in his announcement video, accusing journalists of often excluding facts that detract from their narratives. He did not mention Musk has ...

Some South Florida students are being honored for their acts of kindness. Each month, staff members at North Beach Elementary nominate students to be recognized for the Jennifer Beth Turken Heart Award. Turken was a student at the school who passed away in 1996 at just 8 years old due to a brain tumor. Her parents created the award to recognize students for their kindness and respect towards one another.“We basically teach children all about kindness, we read stories to them about kindness, and it really works,” said Dana Turken, Jennifer’s mother. “I try to be kind, and I try to make my other friends feel good and okay about themselves,” said Lidnsay Gonzales, an award recipient. The winners received certificates and are invited with their classmates to an ice cream party, and at the end of the year, an overall winner from each grade level receives a new bicycle and a helmet.

EPP demands Ukraine join NATO — eventually

The European People’s Party on Tuesday waded into NATO’s thorniest ongoing debate: What to do about Ukraine’s bid to join the alliance.  The center-right group in the European Parliament adopted a declaration calling for the military alliance to lay the groundwork for Kyiv to join NATO — in the long run. “The EPP Group expects that the upcoming Vilnius and Washington summits pave the way to extend an invitation to Ukraine to join NATO and that the accession process will start after the war is over and be finalised as soon as possible,” the grouping said in the declaration, published late Tuesday. This move, the group said, “will strengthen our Alliance and be a further step towards sustainable peace in Europe.”The alliance’s political relationship with Ukraine is currently one of the most sensitive — and divisive — questions facing NATO.During a 2008 summit in Bucharest, NATO made a vague promise that Ukraine would ultimately join the alliance. And while all...

By ZEKE MILLER, SEUNG MIN KIM, JOSH BOAK and LISA MASCARO (Associated Press)WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Tuesday after meeting with President Joe Biden and congressional leaders that he “didn’t see any new movement” toward ending a months-long impasse over raising the nation’s borrowing limit and averting a potential first-ever U.S. default. The president welcomed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in the Oval Office. Their initial challenge was simply to agree on what exactly they were talking about as they met for just over one hour. With the government at risk of being unable to meet its obligations as soon as June 1, raising the specter of economic chaos, Republicans came to the White House hoping to negotiate sweeping cuts to federal spending in exchange for allowing new borrowing to avoid default.“I asked the pres...

By JAKE BLEIBERG and JONATHAN MATTISE (Associated Press)ALLEN, Texas (AP) — The shooter with neo-Nazi leanings who killed eight people at a suburban Dallas shopping mall brought eight legally purchased guns to the scene, apparently chose his victims randomly and was shot dead by police within four minutes, authorities said Tuesday. The Allen police officer who shot and killed 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia, ending Saturday’s attack, acted heroically and saved “countless lives” through his quick action, Hank Sibley, the regional director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said at a news conference. Authorities said the officer is still processing what happened and isn’t ready to have his name made public.“If he hadn’t have been there, I think we’d have had a much more severe situation,” Sibley said. The investigation into Garcia’s motive is ongoing, but he expressed neo-Nazi beliefs, Sibley said, adding that Garcia had no ...
